Breaking this sucker in with SNOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

The Snow Meme

It's the middle of the night, and it's almost completely silent.

Maybe you're in the only house that still has its lights on, and you're looking out the window at the blanket of white now coating everything in sight outside.

Or maybe you ARE outside, and you're walking through this winter wonderland and wondering if anybody else is even awake to see it.

... But you're not alone. Who else is there?

INSTRUCTIONS:
‧ Post with whatever character you want
‧ Responders roll (random.org is good for this!) for weather (if you want) + scenario and get to threading!
‧ ???
‧ Profit!!

LEVEL OF SNOWFALL:
1) The snow just stopped-- leaving everything from sidewalks to streets blanketed in squeaky brand new snow!
2) Very light. Just sprinkling.
3) Heavy-- big fat flakes drifting down FAST!
4) All-out blizzard.

SCENARIOS:

1) What? The middle of the night isn't a good time to go walking outside? Pffff, fuck the police, you're out taking a stroll! Maybe you were making a middle-of-the-night run for some groceries or maybe you just wanted to be alone with your thoughts-- either way, hope you brought a jacket!

2) You're stuck. Your car broke down, or you got locked out-- now you're looking for shelter. Maybe there's a friend nearby, or maybe you're gonna have to ask a total stranger for help.

3) MIDNIGHT SNOW WAR!!! Best time to have an epic snowball fight with forts and hostages and capturing flags is after dark when all the boring people are holing up indoors, right? Maybe you trooped out with a group of friends to play in the snow, or maybe you're just hiding in your fort waiting to nail unsuspecting passersby on the street, or maybe you're a responsible adult who's tromping outside to break up the snow war and drag those crazy kids in by their ears. It's like two AM, guys, come on.

4) Cuddly blankets? Check. Fire in the fireplace? Check. A good movie on the TV or well-read book in your hand? Check. Hot cocoa (with the appropriate number of marshmallows? Double check. Boy, you sure hope nobody's outside in all this-- you're perfectly happy to appreciate the winter beauty from indoors. Maybe even with somebody to snuggle with.

5) Mix and match, or create your own scenario!

[shifting the blanket a little more comfortably over her legs, Mary sips at her hot chocolate and stares into the fire, but then the corner of her vision turns to James and a small smile slips over her lips]

I know it's not ideal because we need to go to the store, and you need to go to work but... I love days like this.
nineredsquares: I'm not totally sure what I did wrong but I'm going to hang my head and feel terrible about myself anyway. (... I'm sorry...)

ALL MY TEARS-- assuming this is before the diagnosis.

[A somewhat scorched-looking James soon joins her, coughing into one fist. It's the first time he's ever LIT a fire-- in an actual fireplace. anyway. Lighting a gas stove doesn't really count. Needless to say, it took a couple tries to get it right.]

I'm pretty sure no one'll be making the hike out there anyway... my boss can just get over it for one day.

[He stretches an arm around Mary's shoulders, admiring his handiwork in the fireplace. So worth it.]
youmademehappy: (are you taping again?)

I'm assuming too. Oh god these two <3

[Mary laughs slightly, hiding behind her hand though it obviously doesn't muffle the sound. She reaches up and brushes a little soot from his cheek and then leans against him, sighing softly]

It's a very nice fire.

[she turns her head to study his face for a moment]

James, honey, did you burn yourself?
nineredsquares: Run that by me again? (Okay! ... wait what?)

bawww ;-;

[The corners of his mouth tug upwards into a smile when she compliments the fire. He worked hard on that! It's a manly thing to do, building fires. All in all, he's quite pleased with how he pulled it off. You know, for a first-time try.]

[He reaches up and wipes a smudge of black off of his face, looking down at his fingers after.]

More like singed... It's fine though.

[Hover over a fire too much and you get a little scorched. Who knew?]

[still, though, she gives him an overly exaggerated sympathetic look and pushes some of his too-long bangs out of his face]

Poor James.

[Mary sighs softly and lets her head drop onto his shoulder]

Maybe we should just forget about having lives and do this every day.
nineredsquares: No James it is literally always her stripper doppelganger, why do you even keep asking (Mary?? Is it really you?)

[He needs to get himself a haircut. It's been too long.]

[His mouth quirks upwards in a half-smile at her touch, and he lets his own head rest on hers.]

I think I could get behind that idea.

Sounds peaceful.

Think maybe I could convince my boss to keep paying me without actually going in?

[she laughs softly, reaching for his hand and clasping it in hers]

I'd do it, if I were you. You deserve it. You work too hard, you know.

[she smiles brightly at him, still trying to fix his hair with her free hand]
nineredsquares: (I don't have anything on my face Maria!)

IKR

[If there'd been other people around, he might have leaned away and made a face, but aw hell who's gonna know. He went ahead and let her fiddle with his hair.]

Yeah... but man, to hear him talk, I don't work hard enough.

[A thoughtful pause.]

... Maybe if I pretended I was sick...
