Heather had lived in some lousy places before. Places where getting jumped in an alley by some nutcase was scary but not exactly unheard of.

But this dinky little town in Middle of Nowhere, Texas had nothing on Portland. Getting stabbed multiple times in the middle of this sort of town was a big deal. It was weird.
