The Devil was one name for it.

The roar carried on longer than was probably necessary.

Then, no sooner than it had ended, the creature released Anthony from the wall, only to turn in place and bodily fling him out into the road. If this had been an edgy action movie, he'd have been pile-drived by a speeding bus before even hitting the ground, but fortunately for him, there wasn't anybody out driving at this time of night so the worst he would face from his spill would be some broken teeth and maybe a concussion.

But one thing he would have to carry with him down the road was the memory of the last thing he'd see before eating asphalt-- a flare of radiant light blooming behind the creature's head, forming a perfect circle. Like the ring around a full moon on a clear, cold night.
